Joyce Garnett

Joyce Garnett is University Librarian at The University of Western Ontario (Western). Formerly, she was at Laurentian University: initially as Director of the Library, and subsequently as Executive Director of Advancement responsible for Alumni Relations, Communications and Development, and leadership for the University’s Capital Campaign. Prior to Laurentian, Joyce was Area Librarian for Science and Engineering at McGill University, Chief Librarian at Pratt & Whitney Canada, and Reference Librarian in the Medical and Engineering Libraries at McGill.    

Joyce has 25 years of university teaching experience in the areas of information retrieval, scholarly communication and scientific research resources at Western, Laurentian, McGill and Concordia. She has served on the boards of the Association of Research Libraries, the Canadian Association of Research Libraries, the Ontario Council of University Libraries and the Canadian Research Knowledge Network, and advisory councils for Swets Information Services, OCLC Canada, and the Depository Services Program; she was recently elected to OCLC’s Global Council as a delegate from the Americas Regional Council. She serves on CRKN’s VITaL Task Group, as a member since 2009 and as chair since 2010.
