Communications Outreach – E-survey open

The Communications Outreach is being conducted to gather information to inform the strategic planning process. Adhering to the best practise methodology undertaken in 2009/10 that received an award of excellence from the International Association of Business Communicators, the Communications Outreach is designed to gather information in both qualitative and quantitative formats. Stages 1 & 2 are intended to qualitatively identify ideas and issues from the membership and the stakeholder communities that can be pursued in a quantitative (stage 3) e-survey with members. 

Cost-Sharing Advisory Group update

The Cost-Sharing Advisory Group (CSAG) has been tasked with making recommendations on license cost-sharing issues to the Board of Directors by May 2013. CSAG has met twice by teleconference and will be meeting again on July 18 in Montreal. CSAG has determined that its success depends on engagement with CRKN members and full transparency in the work of the committee.

Membership Benefits Statement

Earlier in June the first customized Membership Benefit Statements were prepared and shared with members. The statement described performance measures including take-up of the content licenses, membership fees, CFI funding, benefits of centralized negotiation, addressing national issues, and member communication & engagement.   • NRT Meeting Recap – May

    The Negotiations Resource Team (NRT) met in-person in Ottawa on May 28 and 29. The topics of discussion included session planning for the AGM, 2012 license renewal progress, task group updates and general NRT business. A portion of the meeting was also devoted to a collaborative session with staff from the regional consortia.     Pilot Project for Enhanced Use of Foreign Exchange under Consideration

    The Finance & Audit Committee has asked CRKN to determine the value in providing members with additional tools to manage foreign exchange risks and protect their collections budgets. As a result, CRKN is preparing for a small-scale trial this summer to ascertain members’ level of interest. CRKN recognizes that its services represent a significant source of foreign exchange risk for members; 60% of members’ US dollar transactions with CRKN are represented in its six largest licenses. A nominal administration fee to participate in the trial may be required.

    The Communications outreach is being conducted to gather information to inform the strategic planning process leading to the 2013-2015 strategic plan, and to offer benchmark information compared with the 2009 outreach. Once again, a three-phase process is being employed, starting with brainstorming sessions, followed by a meeting with consortia to look for opportunities to share information, rationalize service and strengthen relationships.

    Serials Management Task Group Submits Interim Report

    The objective of the Serials Management Task Group (SMTG) is to plan and complete work to customize vendor supplied title lists to accurately reflect CRKN entitlements. These lists would then be supplied to link resolvers to create CRKN specific targets in the knowledge base.
