CRKN has undertaken an extensive and collaborative approach in arriving at its 2010-2012 Strategic Plan. Beginning with the 2009 Communications outreach, moving through regional meetings and a series of teleconferences, Members were given the opportunity for input at many points along the way. This approach was well received and resulted in the plan being approved intact at the Annual Meeting of the Members on September 15, 2010 in Winnipeg.

How do we measure up?
CRKN has developed a framework of indicators in order to benchmark performance, share the value of achievements with others and to use the indicators for information-based decision-making. CRKN’s Value, Influence, Trends and Leadership (VITaL) Task Group has created this framework to meet these objectives. To ensure the framework was strategic, it was aligned with the 2010-2012 Strategic Plan.
Three themes or “umbrellas” were created to capture the essence of CRKN outcomes, using the narrative to shape the messaging directed to different target audience segments. The three conceptual umbrellas have been turned into dashboards which drive the impact discussion. The three dashboards include the following:

- Scholarly Content Offerings
- Community Engagement
